Death... it's inevitable.

We celebrated the life of our grandmother who lived till 97. How many great people can make it to this age? As much as i would have wanted to cry, I smiled. Not because i am callous to the loss of life but:

I am happy for her long life. she had witnessed generations go past her and it gave her happy and sad memories.
I am happy that she would finally rest. The tired and weary traveler had accomplished all she wanted for her family.
I am happy that we were all able to share time with her. Her wisdom had guided all those who chose to listen.
I am happy she brought us together. Even in the end she has found a way to bring our family closer with one another.

I will be working with family now to make sure that all her efforts to bring us together will never be in vain.

I have gone through some of my old mail and just remembered 2 old friends that need to be acknowledged.

They are the first few people i have made a connection with at the dawn of the internet age here at home back in 1995.

It's amazing how the internet has breached distance, age, culture, nationality and other boundaries that need not be mentioned.

Norman and David live in the UK and have been friends for 14 years now.

Norman is 80 now and David 70, life goes on and it would not be right for me not to thank them for all the wisdom they have instilled on me, opening my eyes to new things, learning about different places from their perspectives and openings new doors for me to explore.

The people i have met in this virtual world has changed me and has made me what i am. it's a change that i have no regrets over.

I guess i should go back to writing my thoughts here.

Its been a long few months of adjusting to work and different things the new year had to offer. PLDT still hasn't fixed the connection and it has been 5 months running that i have not really been able to get a steady streaming connection to use. I have tried to apply for Globe but the area has not been prepped for any internet connections.

I was able to log in tonight (after refreshing the browser at least 12 times) with the crappy connection so i decided just to blog.

New things i have learned:

1. My blog has a follower - amazingly someone subscribed to it, maybe by accident. but hey THANKS!Hey cool! someone reads my blog.

2. I checked the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) website - I wanted to file a complaint against PLDT for the really bad service and discovered that the only page worth visiting on their site is broken.

OMG! where do i complain?

3. PLDT Service Sucks - Not really surprised about this one. I've called so often that i can probably work as a support agent for them.

New things i have done:
1. With all the memory leaks of XP even with the patches, i finally gave in to installing Vista. I love it, it has more eye-candy and seems to process WoW faster than it does with XP. I just hate the part where i need to get a new Soundblaster card to have stereo surround sound but that's ok since the stereo sound works with most of my games anyways.

My G15 keyboard broke and we went out to find a replacement. I was torn between the G15 rev. 2 and the old model. In the end, the old model won! its the semi-rubberized finish which gives it a professional feel and the extra buttons that i never seem to use just makes the over-excessiveness of it all makes it a winner in my book.

Married life is just that... It's complicated. I don't know what to do about it. there's a lack in communication whenever we talk. When i share my sensitive side she fall's asleep. when i comment on her own sensitivites, I don't listen.

Mr. Yoshida invited us to the opening of his karaoke bar in District 1 on Saturday evening. The invitation is for 7pm this and he said he will be prepare some sushi for us!. Also Dale is opening a new Peaches restaurant in town on Sunday(just food though) so i think i might drop by to take some pictures of the new place.

Sunday Lunchtime:
Taj took us out for what seems to be the usual farewell meal leaving Vietnam for people at Al Fresco's. This time it was jun and him leaving to go back home. good luck on the trip home boys!

Monday Morning:
The power went down after we dropped Taj off at the bank so we followed the staff to get some coffee at local coffee shop/restaurant down the road. The festivities did not last long as power was restored and we were all ordered to go back to the office.

Headed down to the watering hole to see who was there and i got some shots of the usual patrons and the fountain at Skygarden at night on the way back to the apartment.

District 1 - Vietnam

We went to district 1 today and was finally able to get some good pictures before we left. District 1 is the backpacking district and is frequented by the tourists because of the dry market and the shops around it.

After Ben Thanh market, we went a few blocks down to get some money changed and i saw some a couple of nice buildings and a park in the middle. The sculptures on the buildings were amazingly beautiful and it is nice to see that they keep it well maintained to preserve its beauty.

The surrounding buildings are department stores and some smaller shops on the ground floor. i would assume that some of the bigger buildings are office spaces.

This has become an interesting hobby which i should try doing back at home. I guess you don't realize how much more home has until you have lived outside the country.

It started out as a cloudy day today

Vietnam has the same as any underdeveloped country in Asia which is the horrible construction of sewage systems. Not to mention when the country's sanitation and garbage disposal does not compensate for the greater population density the result shows when sudden downpours of rain hit the city.

Floods... so today we got stranded at the office since the front side is all flooded and it looks like no one wants to take of their shoes and dare to wade in it.

The bar(pub)I have been visiting is named Peaches and the crowd is one of the best from the places i have visited. I have yet to try the food but the drinks are good and fairly priced and they also play a wide range of music which is far more welcoming than the music i hear while in the taxi's.

I have met a handful of people who hail from different places around the world and they are really great conversationalists who have plenty of stories to tell.

Dale, The Pub owner who hails from Singapore is a really great guy. He treated for a couple of drinks and we had a great conversation all the way till closing time.

Les is a hardcore biker, paramedic and photographer who has lived in Vietnam for around 8 years. Plenty of stories to tell and a vault full of knowledge.

Chris is a Vietnamese guy who had walked over to share his thoughts about the politics of Vietnam owns a shop 2 doors down from the pub.

Sergio from Brazil is a pilot who has been in Vietnam for a few months and had shared his thoughts about better opportunities in a the middle east.

Rhys is a student from Australia who plays the Bass guitar for his band and is taking school in Vietnam.

Yoshida - Japanese guy who laughs a lot and has lived in Brazil for a time. His build and his accent makes him look like one of those powerful anime sensei's.

Miguel - comes from Costa Rica and said he had spent about 2 days flying to get from Costa Rica to Vietnam.

David - from Australia speaks amazingly fluent Vietnamese and owns a touring company around the corner.

I am missing my wife, my computer, my bed and actually hearing people who speak in a language that i understand.

I went to a bar yesterday and found that the bartenders there spoke English in better diction. maybe its just the accent they use that makes them so much easier to converse with.

Korean games and botting

I guess people have different opinion about bots in games. I think this really varies on the content and what the game has to offer.

Games:
Korean Games - korean game developers, to my belief, think that people LOVE mindless grinding. I really prefer content that you would want to explore instead of having to progress X number of levels to be able to see something good about the game.

Game Examples:

Ragnarok Online
Levels: 99
Content: Boss Hunts, Castle Siege
Items: Armor and Item upgrade using Oridicon and Elunium which can be acquired through (you guessed it) grinding.
Gameplay: Mindless grind all the way to get better gear
What i would do?: Bot to death, sell the account and gear then move on to a better game

Lineage II
Levels: 80 (85 on expansion)
Content: Boss hunts, Castle Siege
Items: pretty much same as Ragnarok where you need levels to upgrade but it integrates crafting which also requires levels to attain
Gameplay: grind and a bit of quests to try ant trick you into it seeming like you have accomplished a lot.
What i would do?: bot... and eventually quit playing.

Cabal Online
Levels: 180
Content: Boss Hunt, PvP
Items: Item upgrading through drops, crafting,
Gameplay: skill upgrades on number and strength of attacks you do you need to grind a lot to attain skill levels. very interesting mode of play where you get drawn into doing combos to kill the bosses and other players. It has a quest system built into it like wow to appeal to players not to bot, but this doesn't help skill levels improve just the base levels.
What would i do?: Bot for fun and stop botting for quests.

From the 3 games above. the best so far is Cabal. but if you are looking to step up your gaming experience i would recommend a different flavor.

Right now i am still entertained by the more advanced game designs of Jap and American games. World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Final Fantasy have more complex game systems that botting them will simply deprive you of the satisfaction of enjoying the rich game content. They may be more expensive, but i can assure you that it's worth your money to see what lies in store for you.

Red Plates

Today i was in the expressway with this car sporting red plates. Upon our drive into the city i noticed that that the guy driving had no intentions to follow any road rules whatsoever.

The guy overtook aggressively, cut into other people's lanes, crossed the yellow lines and accelerated so abruptly that he had almost hit other commuters in the process.

These people think that having red plates gives them the advantage and security to disrespect the road rules. I think someone has to do something about it.

The city police should set policemen up dressed in casual attire to catch traffic violators.

They should take cabs Buses or Jeeps and observe how these drivers perform on the road and give them tickets before getting off at their destination. I think this would keep our streets safe from crazy public transportation drivers.

Of course, we have to also upgrade the standards of the Philippine police by giving them better road education and worthy of being called law enforcers.

Phidar was the first online telnet game we have played back in 95 when internet was still available only as dial up. We made a lot of friends here and its where we learned about of the online gaming culture as we see it today.

I've been looking around on apple movie trailers and saw some interesting trailers that might be worth watching.

I Am Legend - A movie based on the science fiction novel by Richard Matheson

I'm still sorta confused why this has separate trailers on apple movies, reading up a bit on it i discovered that I Am Legend is the original story by Richard Matheson. it was made into a movie called Last Man on Earth in 1964 and the new Will Smith version looks like a revival of the title. Also, the trailer of the first one seems to be pictures of the comic book where it was taken from and the other is the live action version of the trailer.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets - The sequel to the first National Treasure film, I am sort of expecting this film to be another kiddie Da Vinci Code clone. Hopefully it would still be a good watch for entertainment value.

Dr. Seuss: Horton hears a who! - Another Dr. Seuss, book in which Jim Carrey will be in (the first being the Grinch). The animation is really well done and its very attractive to people who want to relive the days where books were the best form of children's education and entertainment.

Anyways, we have finally gotten the x-mas tree up and decided to decorate it with edible goods (candy cane, gingerbread cookies and other stuff) we figured that it would be easier to clean up after x-mas as all we have to do is let guests pick a treat up after the come to visit and hopefully the tree will only have the lights on it by the end of Christmas.

Also, going to start exploring work tomorrow and hopefully I'll get lots of new things to do.

Tried Guild Wars

I've been trying Guild Wars the last couple of days and it seems like an interesting game.

I have a couple of comments about the game though:

1. You never seem to have enough energy to do anything - it seems like all the skills require energy and whatever cool spells you have will have a cooldown thats so long. Makes the dual class option sorta useless.

2. No Threat? - seems like the monsters will run at your ranged guys first since they always get the first blow in.

3. No Armor Drops - seems like all the armor have to get crafted by NPC armorers in the towns using materials you get from monster drops.

4. Not a very helpful game - its hard to get information about how to do what anywhere.

5. Trees and terrain always in the way - when you are running around in the wilderness there doesn't seem to be any alpha blending for the trees and you have to swing the camera around to get a better view of things.

Will post more after i get around to playing the game some more.

1. Typhoon - People will be concerned about their well being and the well being of their loved ones.

3. Same Banana - People are tired. Installing some idiot soldier in government will not change the fact that he is still a puppet of another idiot politician who's agenda was not met in the current administration

4. What? another revolution? - Let's face it. the mock revolutions the Philippines stage only works every 10-15 years. for the mere fact that only then do people get bored and actually show some semblance of understanding on how politics and government actually work.

5. They just caused traffic - I think we all know that if there is one enemy here in the Philippines, its traffic. Their little show of civil disobedience has just wasted 2 hours of my time in Makati.

Heroes and the WGA Strike

What can i say? It's one of the best shows out there today.

The first season had an amazing run. The second season started with a slow showing but is now picking up with its cliffhanger endings.

Unfortunately, due to the Writers Guild of America strike future episodes will be delayed along with the mini-series that was announced to show this season called Heroes: Origins

According to the listing, about 11 episodes have been produced and it looks like we will have to wait next year till more episodes are produced.

Also with this strike are a bunch of other shows that have been affected by the strike.

Gone are the good old days of wrestling. all we get now are the crappy storylines and some reused gimmicks.

Wrestling is a man's soap opera. We all know that the stories are fake but we do want a good show.

The themes of old wrestling eras were topnotch and the rivalries were way cooler than the new ones they have.

Stuff that i miss about wrestling

Stone Cold Steve Austin - the old Stone Cold was way cooler.

DX - Degeneration X caused so much chaos that it was actually believable.

Nation of Domination - WWE looked like such a gangwar with these wrestling stables.

Disciples of Apocalypse - Biker gang from hell. more realistic than a man who rises from the dead.

Hart Foundation - Remnants of the previous era who wanted to reclaim the throne

WoW 2.3

I'm defenitely playing too much WoW. i can tell by the level of my characters.

Sad part is that i only spent a few weeks at home and i've gotten my other characters to level 15 or past that. not to mention the ton of gold i have made just farming the auction house.

The new 2.3 patch has made it so much easier to level through quests and the most of the quest rewards from long quest chains have been revamped to blue items.

Also, the low level instances have blue boss drops now (even RFC).

What's in a name?

I was just looking back and thinking about how names are become part of establishments. I remember being told not to use my game master handle as it belongs to the company i used to work for. Thinking about it, it never stated in the contract that i signed that they would have rights to my handle after i created it. nor did they copyright the name after i left.

So here it is, it will forever be my identity. The name that was tarnished by their policies, the name that carried me through thick and thin. and the name i will still carry as i move on to other fields.
